The vibrant diamonds and triangles traveling the length of this soft wool textile evoke movement and read like symbols noting types of weather, signs which a traveler might encounter. The original wool textile that inspired this symbol rich fabric was made in 1980 by Tamang artisan of Nepal. The Tamang are one of the indigenous inhabitants of mountainous Nepal who have their own distinct culture, language and religion. While the Tamang inhabit the mountainous regions of Asia, these symbols are shared worldwide and are also found on the weavings of the Navajo (Dine). Valley Trail is inspired by a textile in the collections of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
